Here is a recap of a busy Monday of basketball as all four teams were in action last night.
JV Girls 27 – Dearborn Heights Annapolis 22
The JV Girls overcame a cold night of shooting to rally in the 4th quarter to earn their 4th win of the year. Trailing 9 to 5 at the end of the 1st, 15 to 11 at halftime, 20 to 16 at the end of the 3rd, Maddie Wellday picked a great time to score all six of her points in the 4th to help the Hawks outscore Annapolis 11 to 2 in the quarter. It was a total team effort. In addition to Wellday’s six points, Krissa Sabit also added 6 points, Madelynn Crenshaw netted five, Maddie Golchuk contributed 4 points, Annika VanLoton four, and Marina Froelich had 2 points.
Dearborn Heights Annapolis 42 – Varsity Girls 31
The Varsity girls led at halftime 16-13, but after a cold 3rd quarter they found themselves trailing by 10. Despite making a run in the 4th, Annapolis countered and pulled away for an 11 point victory. The Hawks were led in scoring by Emily Haines with 15 points. Dana LeFevre (4), Autumn Cramb (3), Allie Prieskorn (3), Chloe Wellday (3), and Hannah Wellday (3) all contributed for the Hawks.
Detroit Universal Academy 40 – JV Boys 39
The JV Boys held the lead for most of the game, but in the end a couple of missed layups and poor free throw shooting proved costly as they lost by 1. Xaxier Medina led the Hawks with 18 points. Matt Neilson had 8 points, John Lovell (6), Alvin Ren (5), and Raymond Wong (2) rounded out the Hawks scoring.
Varsity Boys 44 – Detroit Universal Academy 38
Through three quarters, it didn’t look very promising as the Hawks only managed to put 21 points on the board against a taller, more athletic Eagles squad. After a couple made jumpers by Nick Doletzky(14 points in the 4th), six free throws by Logan Kittle, a backdoor layup by Zach Dest the Hawks jumped out to a five point lead and held on for their first win of the year. Doletzky finished with 26 points, Kittle with 7, Nick Vanderveen had four, and Johnathan Tosto added 4 points and a couple key blocks and rebounds during the fourth quarter rally.
All four team are off for exams and Christmas break and will resume action on Tuesday, January 9.
