Girls Varsity Softball · Big 4th Inning Keys Softball Victory


HVL and Parkway Christian took turns countering each other Friday night, before a seven run fourth inning gave the Hawks the lead for good. Parkway Christian scored one in the top of the first with HVL scoring three in the bottom of the inning. Parkway Christian took the lead back at 4-3 in the top of the third before the Hawks tied it up in the bottom of the inning.  Parkway Christian regained the lead at 6 to 4 in the top of the fourth before HVL took the lead for good, scoring seven in the bottom of the inning to take an 11 to 6 lead.  In the fourth, Alex Hanselman singled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs, Hannah Wellday singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs, and Dana LeFevre tripled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.The visitors tried to get back in it scoring two more in the top of the 6th, but the defense did its job and closed it out in the 7th for an 11 to 8 victory. Emily Haines was the winning pitcher for HVL. She allowed eight hits and eight runs over seven innings, striking out ten.  The Hawks tallied 13 hits. Sophie Doehrer, Hanselman, Haines, and LeFevre all managed multiple hits for HVL. Hanselman and Doehrer led the Hawks with three hits each.
