HVL scored 15 runs in the fourth and fifth innings and went on to defeat Lutheran High Westland 18-8 on Tuesday. The game was tied at three in the bottom of the fourth when Madison Golchuk doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs. In the seven run fourth, Hannah Wellday doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run, Emily Haines grounded out, scoring one run, Annika Van Loton singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, Sophie Doehrer grounded out, scoring one run, and an error scored one run for HVL. Lutheran High Westland battled right back in the top of the fifth, scoring five runs to pull within one at 9-8. The Hawks pulled away for good, adding 8 runs in the fifth. For the Hawks, Van Loton, Hanselman, Hannah Wellday, Golchuk, and Kim Beckerman all drove in runs in the frame. Golchuk’s hit was a 3 run home run, the first of her career. Haines was the winning pitcher for the Hawks. She allowed seven hits and eight runs over six innings, striking out ten. HVL racked up 21 hits. Hanselman, Hannah Wellday, Van Loton, Chloe Wellday, Golchuk, Haines, and Beckerman all had multiple hits. Hanselman led the way going 4-for-4 at the plate. The Hawks tore up the base paths, as five players stole at least two bases. Chloe Wellday led the way with three. HVL didn’t commit a single error in the field. Dana LeFevre had the most chances in the field with 12.
