The Hawks girls basketball teams went on the road for their season opener to Greenhills, and both left victorious.
Girls Varsity 37 – Greenhills 22
Balance and consistency were key to helping the Hawks open the season with the win at Greenhills. The Hawks outscored their opponent in each quarter 8-4, 12-9, 8-3, 9-6 en route to the 37-22 victory. Emily Haines and Dana LeFevre paced the Hawks with 12 points each. Haines added 4 steals and 3 rebounds. LeFevre added 5 rebounds and 2 assists. Also chipping in for the victory were: Allie Prieskorn and Sophie Doehrer with 4 points each, Callie Doehrer (3 points and 4 rebounds), Autumn Cramb (2 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals), and Chloe Wellday (2 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals).
Girls JV 31 – Greenhills 18
The Hawks grabbed the lead in the 1st quarter and never looked back, leading 8-2 after one. Two defensive quarters, that didn’t see much scoring, saw the Hawks take a 12-4 lead into the half and an 18-7 lead after three quarters. The offenses started to click for both teams in the 4th quarter as the Hawks outscored Greenhills 13-11 in the quarter to earn the 31-18 victory. Leading the way for the Hawks was Madelynn Wellday with 17 points and 23 rebounds. Annika Van Loton had 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 steals. Others chipping in for the Hawks were: Kate Beckerman (2 points), Marina Froehlich (2 points), Lilia Kasten (5 rebounds, 3 assists), and Alexis Schliewe (8 rebounds).
